Everything in quotes is taken from the testimony of ICE whistleblower Ryan Schwank before Congress. Of course the problem with the new Gestapo isn't their lack of training. A better-trained Gestapo is still a Gestapo. But this is evidence that those in power currently never intended anything other than their own Gestapo. If their private army of brownshirts was really about immigration law, presumably they'd be trained accordingly.

Let's be up front about this: Both parties are very bad about this. The Democrats have allowed right-wingers and fascists to set the terms of the debate over immigration for...well, most of my lifetime, really. Both sides have been very bad about this, but only the Republicans have used the whole mess as leverage to build their own paramilitary force and concentration camps. The Democrats are complicit insofar as they haven't forced a reframing of immigration. Some few of them have tried but the party as a whole is hung up on being "culturally normal", "prone to spending disproportionate amounts of time on pronouns, identity politics" (to quote fuckwit Gavin Newsom) instead of, you know, leading. So thanks to their failure to get out ahead of the fascist talking points, we now have federal paramilitaries killing people in the street.
