Penguin: If we believe that Iran presents a serious threat, we need to support the president's war on Iran. On Iran we should be on common ground. Penguin: You missed a step, which is where you show evidence as to this serious threat posed by Iran. Penguin: You've got to begin by asking yourself, do you believe it's acceptable for the Iranian regime to have nuclear weapons and the capacity to deliver them? Penguin: Or maybe we could begin by asking whether the Iranian regime was ever actually going to develop nuclear weapons. Penguin: It's important for Trump to have enough runway to finish the job. Penguin: He and his cronies have done such a great job of starting it, surely their wrap-up won't be a clusterfuck.

The leftward penguin's words are taken, pretty much verbatim, from this interview in the New Yorker with talking albino eggplant David Boies. Apparently he's such a bloodthirsty asshole that he wants Iran smashed regardless of whether or not a) it's a good idea likely to improve the world generally and b) it actually attains the stated goal, i.e. preventing Iran from getting nukes. Seems to me -- and I'm just an untutored rube who didn't go to Yale to learn lawyering and conflicts of interest -- that blowing up various parts of Iran and killing schoolchildren and grandmothers and so forth is only going to make them work even harder on getting nukes. I'm sure the Ayatollah (whichever one we're on now) and his regime have noticed the complete and utter lack of bombing the U.S. has done on Russia or North Korea. If there's anything that's the direct consequence of ripping up the Iran nuclear deal and bombing the crap out of them, it's making it clear that the only way to remain sovereign and intact is to have nuclear weapons. Which is the direct opposite of what the Iran nuclear deal was intended to do: not just keep Iran from getting nukes, but reassure the rest of the world that they didn't need nukes. Now it's clear that every nation that can get nuclear weapons should.

Which sounds bad to me, I dunno.
